Limerick City and County Councils Welcome New Jobs in Foynes, Co Limerick

Press Release
Friday, 14th June 2013

Limerick City and County Councils have welcomed the news that 142 new jobs will be created in Foynes by CPL Industries, following the company’s announcement of an expansion of its operations in Ireland.

Manager/CEO Conn Murray described the creation of the jobs as ‘a timely and significant boost to County Limerick’ on the day that a new vision document for Limerick 2030 as a centre for commercial investment was also launched.

“CPL Industries is one of Europe’s largest solid fuel suppliers to domestic households and its plans to develop a new state of the art bio-fuel plant at Foynes is extremely welcome, particularly given the level of competition from other ports,” he said. “On a day that a new economic and spatial plan is being launched for the Mid-West, Limerick City and County Councils are delighted to work with CPL to facilitate its expansion and investment in Foynes and we look forward to 142 new jobs coming on stream over the coming months, with a further 150 employed in the construction of the new facility.”

Welcoming the development as a vote of confidence in the area, Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council, Cllr Jerome Scanlan added: “It is a major boost for West Limerick that CPL Industries have chosen to invest in Foynes and testimony to the superb deep-water facilities that are available here in the Shannon Estuary with significant land available for a purpose built plant of this nature. The site will be used by the company as its main distribution point throughout Ireland and this strategic move reinforces what a key infrastructural asset our port facilities play for expansion, business and employment opportunities.”
