New Director of Economic Development and Planning Appointed

New Limerick Local Authorities Manager, Conn Murray, has appointed his first Director with joint responsibilities across both Limerick City and County Council’s as the local authorities prepare for full amalgamation in 2014.

Mr Tom Enright has been appointed as Director with responsibility for Economic Development and Planning and takes up his new position from next Monday, October 1st.
A native of Dungarvan, Co Waterford, Tom Enright has worked in Limerick for almost 20 years and previously held the posts of Director of Environment and Emergency Services and Director of Planning with Limerick County Council.  He is a graduate of University College Cork and Cranfield University in the UK and holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Dublin City University.

Mr Enright has worked with consultants in the private sector together with a number of local authorities. Since the start of this year, he has been Director of the Limerick Reorganisation Implementation Group, the group chaired by Denis Brosnan charged with the preparation of an Implementation Plan for the amalgamation of Limerick City and County Councils.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Enright stated that the new Limerick local authority must place Economic Development and job creation at the top of its agenda.  
“I see great challenges facing Limerick but also believes that there are real opportunities,” he said.  “Local government must play a pivotal role in ensuring that Limerick City and County are excellent places in which to live, do business and to visit. “The importance of working closely with enterprise development agencies such as the IDA, Shannon Development and Enterprise Ireland cannot be overestimated as we continue to make Limerick an attractive place for investment”.

Welcoming his appointment, Limerick Local Authorities Manager, Conn Murray stated:  
“Economic Development is one of the most important aspects of rejuvenating and re-invigorating Limerick city and county. Having a person of the calibre of Tom Enright makes it an opportune time to move forward with his appointment.”
