Zombies to take over Limerick streets for Outbreak Festival

Monday, September 12th 2011

Limerick’s streets will be over-run with zombies during OUTBREAK, the city’s first Zombie festival, it was announced today.
From September 29th-October 2nd, Limerick will play host to hundreds of zombies all for a good cause as the largest Zombie themed party weekend Limerick has ever seen will take place.
Zombie flashmobs, parades, movie screenings, bands, DJs, and plenty of zombie-friendly hotels bars restaurants and nightclubs will host unique events for the festival which is in aid of the Cliona Ring Foundation.
The Festival kicks off on Thursday, 29th September with the students of Limerick hosting events around the city and and continues right through until the 2nd of October, with a full schedule of music events, talks with guest speakers, movie screenings and children’s spooky tours in the Hunt Museum.

Outbreak organiser, Mike McLoughlin said the whole event is a non-profit, community-driven event.

“We want to bring people together in a fun and original way, while raising money for a local charity,” he said. “Zombie festivals are growing in popularity across the world and it’s about time that Limerick has its own celebration of zombie culture too. Anyone can get dressed up as a zombie, it’s a bit of fun in fancy dress and gruesome makeup and we’re delighted to be supporting The Cliona Ring Foundation which gives financial support to families of children who are facing life-threatening illness.”

The main event will be a massive fancy dress "Zombie shuffle" through the city centre's streets on the evening of Saturday, October 1st expected to attract thousands of gruesome zombies!
