Licencing of Structures

Limerick City Council in accordance with the provisions of Section 254 of the Planning & Development Act, 2000–2010 (As Amended) and Part 17, Schedule 12 of the Planning & Development Regulations 2001 (As Amended) is enabled to licence the placement of any item such as tables and chairs, signs and structures over and along a public road/footpath.

The following items require a licence from Limerick City Council:

  • Street furniture such as tables and chairs.
  • Sandwich Boards/Advertising Boards.
  • Windbreakers.
  • Displaying of goods for sale in front of shops on the public road/footpath.
  • Signage including directional signage.

An application for a licence may be made by completing a F16 - Application for Licencing of Signs, Appliances, Structures Etc. (196 Kb). The application can then be forwarded to the Planning & Economic Development Department by emailing or alternatively by post to the Planning & Economic Development Department, Limerick City Council, 1st Floor City Hall, Merchants Quay, Limerick. For a renewal licence for signs, applicances and structures, an Applicant must complete a F17 – Application Form for Renewal of Existing Licence (199 Kb).
