Event Trading

An Event Casual Trading Licence is required by every individual who wishes to sell goods at the vicinity of an event for the day or days an event is taking place. The location at which an individual or company can trade will be at the discretion of Limerick City Council and An Garda Siochana. Applications to trade at an event or concert, must be submitted at least 10 days in advance of an event. For event trading involving the Gaelic Grounds, the Applicant must complete F13 - Gaelic Grounds Application Form (736 Kb) alternatively, for event trading involving Thomond Park, the Applicant must complete F14 - Thomond Park Application Form (568 Kb).

Requirements for Event Trading:

  • Completed signed application form
  • HSE certification if required
  • Details of vehicle used for trading (registration number etc)
  • An Irish Personal Public Service Number (PPS No.) in the case of an individual, or Tax Reference No. in the case of a company.
  • Public Liability Insurance cover indemnifying Limerick City Council to the sum of €2.6m.
  • Two passport sized photographs.

Note: The acceptance of an application by Limerick City Council cannot guarantee the granting of a licence.

 Special Events (One-off Events)

Limerick City Council’s Planning & Economic Development Department aims to animate the public domain by encouraging and introducing more events and activities for all ages in City Centre public spaces. Anyone who plans to hold an event in a public space under the jurisdiction of Limerick City Council shall complete F15 - Special Event Licence Application Form (179 Kb) and contact the Planning & Economic Development Department as early as possible at (061) 407210 or alternatively by emailing plandev@limerickcity.ie to discuss the proposal.

Consultation with the Planning Department is necessary for events taking place in private grounds or in other authority areas that will impact on the City e.g. through increased traffic/crowds or litter.

Types of Events licenced:

  • Charity events of any kind (in conjunction with on Garda Siochána)
  • Music events (under 5,000)
  • Local book signing
  • Street performances
  • Street art
  • Cultural Events
  • Public awareness programmes

All events and proposals will be examined by Limerick City Council, however receipt of an application form does not guarantee the licencing of an event. 

Please note in order to facilitate a road closure there is a minimum period of 6 weeks notice required to the Transport & Infrastructure Department.
