Ratepayers in difficulty encouraged to engage with Limerick City and County Council

Friday, 14th March 2014

Limerick City and County Council are actively working with customers who have outstanding balances on rates to facilitate payment plans.

While the current economic climate still presents challenges for ratepayers, Limerick City and County Council hope collection rates in both the city and county will improve over the coming year.

The local authority is sending out a clear signal that Limerick is open for business with a landmark 15.8 per cent reduction in the city’s commercial rates this year leading to a single Annual Rate of Valuation (ARV) in Limerick, following the local elections in May.

Head of Finance with Limerick City and County Council, Tom Gilligan is encouraging businesses in the county and city that are experiencing difficulties to get in touch.

“We encourage customers to come and talk to us. Our doors are always open and we are willing to work out a payment plan,” Mr Gilligan explained.

“In line with procedures for 2013, we continue to encourage our customers that are experiencing difficulties in terms of payment to make contact with the rates department as soon as possible, said Mr Gilligan. "There are a variety of different options available," he added.

Limerick has now become the most attractive city in Ireland to locate a business with the lowest commercial rates, the lowest rents and the lowest parking charges.
